There are several ways to determine if your pool is leaking. If you have a pool service, they will usually notice first. Your pool will not hold chemicals. They will have to add extra salt and stabilizer. The only way these chemicals get low is if water is leaving the pool. If you are still not sure you can perform a water loss test using a bucket. In Florida we see an average of 1/4 of an inch a day in evaporation depending on the area and weather conditions.
To perform a water loss bucket test you will need a 5 gallon bucket that does not leak. You will fill the bucket a little over half to 3/4 full. We recommend setting the bucket on the first step of the pool so water temp and conditions are the same. Turn off the pool and let the water settle. Mark the water on the inside of the bucket and in the pool. We have stickers just for this. You then turn your pool back on so it can run its normal cycle. 24hrs later you will turn the pool off, and recheck the bucket. If the water in the pool is lower than the Bucket you have a leak.
Typical causes of a pool leak include the pool plasters age, damaged plumbing lines from settling, a structural crack in the pool, or a cracked skimmer, main drain, pool light, or return fitting.

Yes, in order to do a complete leak detection in Florida you are required to have a Contractors license. This number will start with CPC and is required if any tool is being used on the pool. In fact you can not remove or replace main drain covers without this license. If you ask your contractor to provide a CPC and they show you anything else it is against the law. You can verify any contractors license at The is link
A swimming pool can raise the value of your home—but only if it’s safe, functional, and built to last. A standard home inspection typically only looks at your pool’s surface and equipment. At Pro Pool Team, we go much further.

Full Pool Testing – We run the pool, test the automation system, and evaluate the performance of all equipment.
Electrical & Bonding Checks – Safety first. We verify proper bonding and electrical connections for your pool’s systems.
Swim Testing – We physically swim the pool to experience it from the homeowner’s perspective.
Leak Detection – Using advanced diagnostic equipment, we inspect the plumbing, surface, and structure to ensure there are no hidden leaks.
This process gives you a clear understanding of your pool’s condition, including any potential repair costs, safety concerns, or structural issues. As a Florida Licensed Contractor, we can also provide you with a detailed quote for any necessary repairs.
Buying a home with a pool should feel exciting—not risky. With a Pro Pool Team inspection, you’ll have peace of mind knowing your pool is safe, sound, and a true asset to your property.
To ensure the most accurate results during your pool leak detection, we ask that certain conditions are met before our technicians arrive:
Clean & Clear Water – Our technicians often need to dive into the pool to inspect main drains and lights. The water must be clear so they can see all areas of the pool.
Normal Operating Level – Please make sure the pool is filled to its normal operating level before the test. This is usually about halfway up the tile line or the skimmer mouth.
Following these steps helps our team work safely and efficiently, while ensuring we can detect even the smallest leaks in your pool or spa.
